Why Painted Furniture Is Still Popular in 2023

Why Painted Furniture Is Still Popular in 2023

It may have taken a step back for a while with the resurgence of natural wood, but painted furniture looks like it’s here to stay. Everyone knows older styles come back into fashion eventually, but who would have thought that something that reached its pinnacle during the 17th and 18th centuries would become a modern timeless classic?

Baroque Techniques....

... With Modern Ideas

Natural materials like wood stand the test of time both literally and metaphorically. Because they are so robust and resistant to wear and tear, furniture makers will always use them, and furniture users will always buy them. But natural wood colours don’t always fit in with your home décor… which is where paint comes in. Whether it be rustic or urban, vintage or contemporary, painting an item of furniture can completely change its style. Simple contemporary twists on an elaborate Baroque idea have created a staple furniture design that transcends usage and house style.

<p>Freedom of expression has never been more prominent, so it makes sense for people to want even their furniture to reflect their personality today. The most on-trend colour for living and dining spaces so far in the 2020s seems to be an olive green. While the end of the 2010s saw a revival of neutral tones being used in decorating, in this decade beige is the new grey. Other earthy, grounding tones such as brown and cream are also popular, which is likely to be due to their calming tranquillity. This ‘earthy rainbow’ effect creates a sense of style in your home that can’t be replicated by other colour scales; introducing deep sapphire blues, muted greens, and other ethereal hues provides a neutral base while still allowing for creativity and individuality. Coordinating the furniture in your shared spaces helps to enhance the feeling of togetherness that these spaces are all about, creating a sense of warmth that really makes a house feel like a home.

With all this in mind, it’s easy to see why painted furniture has never gone out of style in Scandinavia, and now that we’re appreciating Scandi and Nordic styles more and more, maybe we’re finally catching up.
