New Ranges, Old Roots: A Renewed Love of Solid Wood
Tetbury, Tavistock, Bibury and Provence: four new solid wood collections, built to be handed down.
In this guide
Woods has sold solid wood furniture since George Wood opened Woods Domestic Stores on High East Street, Dorchester, in 1875. This winter we're going back to where we started, with four new collections made from solid wood and built to be handed down.
Why solid wood, and why now
A lot of furniture today is made to look like wood. Solid wood is different. It's strong, it can be repaired and refinished, and it gets better with age rather than worse. A scratch on a solid oak table becomes part of its story. On a veneer, it's damage.
We've always believed furniture should be chosen with care and kept for good. Back to Woods is that belief, made into four collections.
Meet the four collections
Tetbury: made to gather around
Classic Shaker lines in solid oak, in a warm natural finish or a soft painted finish with oak tops. Tetbury runs through the whole home: extending dining tables, chairs and benches, sideboards, coffee and side tables, beds, chests and wardrobes. One range, every room.
Tavistock: timeless solid wood for the bedroom
A calm, timeless bedroom collection for quiet mornings and restful nights. [DRAFT NOTE: add two lines on Tavistock's wood, finish and key pieces once product details are confirmed.]
Bibury: a solid wood heart for the home
Freestanding kitchen furniture with the character of a country-house pantry. Single, double and triple larders and kitchen islands, in natural oak or painted Strong White with oak tops. The capacity of a fitted kitchen, with the warmth of furniture you can take with you.
Provence: classic painted oak
Elegant bedroom furniture in painted oak, in black or white. Beds, chests, bedsides and wardrobes with a quiet French country feel. Read more in Provence: Classic Painted Oak.
Built to last, by design
Every Back to Woods piece shares the things we look for when we choose furniture for our showrooms:
- Solid wood where it matters: tops, frames and legs
- Proper drawers that run smoothly and take everyday use
- Finishes you can care for, so the wood can be refreshed rather than replaced
- Timeless shapes that won't date in five years
See it in person
Wood is something you need to see and touch. All four collections are in our showrooms in Dorchester and Bournemouth from 3 December. Come and run your hand along the grain.
And there's more to come: two further solid wood collections, Chiltern and Bridport, arrive in the new year. [DRAFT NOTE: Register your interest link, form live 16 Nov]
